Just a development thought

I have always wondered despite hundreds of development agencies working in Nepal we still haven’t eradicated poverty by half yet. So where did the money go? Or simply, did we use the donations at the right place to meet the right targets or did we simply spend with no outcome. Many large organizations claim their reach (# of population) through their public reports but none tally the figures of their reach which directly affects the national outcome. Something to think about!!!

A question of choice

If you haven’t watched the latest video starring Deepika Padukone declaring her choices, its ok you still have time to catch up. The video has spurred backlashes procuring articles from many female writers and bloggers and fans stating their disappointment. Shoba De the famous Indian writer talked about the confusion – she said she was confused if the video was about women empowerment or was it an advert for an international shampoo brand and the volume it gives to a beautiful woman’s hair just like Deepikas’. One of the fans wrote a letter stating the actress is biased when it comes to women empowerment. I believe the ABC Roast video shows her laughing at lewd jokes passed at someone masturbating to Farida Jalal and Semi Grewal’s dildo but at the same time came out strongly when the Times of India published pictures of her cleavage. Now don’t be so harsh I thought to myself, she is just a pretty girl who has all the right things going for her while at the same time making big b

Insanely trying to raise a kid

While we drive to and from our designated destinations my five year old girl likes to listen to songs. She particularly likes the rap songs. Now I don’t mind her listening to songs I believe children should listen to music all the time. But come to think of it rap songs are hard to digest. While we wait patiently to cross the traffic light the lyrics burst out ‘I want to spank that big fat ass’. One fine day my daughter hummed ‘spank that ass, spank that ass’ and that was a standalone speech, she didn’t say anything further. I wasn’t appalled. I just didn’t know how to react because she has blurted out many other words that I cannot mention here.   Now, I am not proud of what my daughter blurted out – I am trying. I couldn’t say anything in defense. I waited and I explained to her those words aren’t something she should repeat, not everything we hear has to be repeated. I have also tried erasing or skipping all the rap songs that almost always have profane lyrics. Poor kid she is
